Archival orders stricter measures vs ASF

CEBU CITY – Stricter measures have been ordered to prevent the spread of the highly contagious African Swine Fever (ASF) here.

Mayor Nestor Archival ordered intensified border inspections, expanded disease surveillance, and cooperation from stakeholders to prevent the spread of the disease.

The measures were stipulated in a supplemental Executive Order (EO) that Archival signed on Monday, Aug. 3.

The EO also imposes administrative sanctions against those who violate the city's disease-control measures.

It supplements a previous EO that imposed a temporary ban on the entry and exit of live hogs, locally produced pork, pork products, and swine by-products here.

Stricter measures were ordered after 19 hogs from a backyard farm in Barangay Quiot were culled after testing positive for ASF.

The Department of Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (DVMF) said the outbreak was contained after the culling.

The DVMF has been directed to intensify inspections at ports of entry and exit, public markets, slaughterhouses, livestock trading areas, and other strategic locations.

The DMVF will closely work with the Cebu City African Swine Fever Task Force, Cebu City Police Office, Philippine Coast Guard, Cebu Port Authority, Bureau of Animal Industry-Veterinary Quarantine Service 7, Department of Agriculture, Cebu City Transportation Office, Market Operations Division, barangays, and other agencies for the establishment of temporary veterinary inspection and quarantine stations.
