'Useless, nonsense': Palace refutes VP Duterte's accusation that Marcos aided ICC

Malacañang dismissed Vice President Sara Duterte's accusation that President Marcos helped the International Criminal Court (ICC) in connection with her father's case, calling it "useless, baseless, and nonsense."
In a Palace briefing on Thursday, July 30, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said Duterte's accusation against the President has no basis and may have stemmed from frustration.
"Ang lahat po halos ng sinasabi ng Bise Presidente sa ngayon ay walang basehan, walang saysay, useless at nonsense. Maaaring ito ay kaniyang nasasabi out of frustration dahil ang kaniyang ama ngayon ay nililitis sa ICC (Almost everything the Vice President is saying right now is baseless, meaningless, useless, and nonsense. She may be saying these things out of frustration because her father is now being tried before the ICC)," Castro said.
The Palace official reiterated that the case filed against former president Rodrigo Duterte dates back to 2017, when Marcos was still a private citizen.
Castro stressed that the case being faced by the former president is "not President Marcos Jr.'s fault."
"Tumutupad  lang ang Pangulo sa batas. Kung mayroong dapat sisihin, walang iba kung hindi ang kanyang sariling ama dahil sa mga pag-amin nito na siya mismo ay pumatay at nagpapatay, kasama ang ibang mga co-perpetrators (The President is simply complying with the law. If there is anyone to blame, it is no one else but her own father because of his admissions that he personally killed people and ordered others killed, together with other co-perpetrators)," Castro said.
"Malamang ay ikinalulungkot lamang niya dahil ang ICC ay isang impartial court, hindi maaaring gamitan ng impluwensiya at hindi kayang takutin na saktan o anumang puwedeng gawing karahasan (She is probably just distressed because the ICC is an impartial court. It cannot be influenced, intimidated, harmed, or subjected to any form of violence)," Castro added.
"So, muli, ang mga sinabi po ni Bise Presidente ay pawang walang katotohanan, useless, baseless, nonsense (So, once again, the Vice President's statements are completely untrue, useless, baseless, and nonsense)," the Palace mouthpiece further stressed.
Speaking before supporters in The Hague on July 29, Duterte alleged that the ICC's investigation into her father had been backed by individuals in the Philippines, singling out Marcos and Trillanes.
Meanwhile, Castro said there have been no discussions so far on whether it is necessary for the Philippines to rejoin the ICC.
