LTO revokes SUV driver's license over fatal Mandaluyong hit-and-run

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday, July 28, permanently revoked the driver’s license of the SUV driver involved in a hit‑and‑run along Ortigas Avenue, Mandaluyong City, that killed a motorcycle passenger and injured the rider.
The Mandaluyong City Police Station reported that a 20‑year‑old man was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser when it rammed the victims’ motorcycle along the westbound lane of Ortigas Avenue, in front of La Salle Green Hills in Barangay Wack‑Wack, on July 10.
Due to the impact, the motorcycle passenger died at the scene, while the motorcycle rider sustained injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police said the suspect tried to flee toward San Juan City after the collision but was later apprehended by responding officers after being flagged down.

The LTO immediately issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) to the registered owner and driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser.
On Tuesday, the agency said that following the hearing conducted by its Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID), the driver was found liable for violating the rule on reckless driving.
“Idineklara rin siyang Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle, na naging batayan ng permanenteng pagbawi ng kanyang driver’s license (The driver was also declared an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle, prompting the permanent revocation of his driver’s license),” it added.
The SUV was also seen in online videos where its conduction sticker appeared to be covered by a House of Representatives (HOR) sticker. But House Secretary‑General Cheloy Velicaria‑Garafil later clarified that the vehicle was not registered to any member of Congress.
“Based on verification of records from the Land Transportation Office, the registered owner of the vehicle is not a member of the House. There is also no record that the said vehicle was issued a vehicle pass in the 19th and 20th Congress,” she said.

The LTO added that the vehicle will remain on alarm status.
