On Sunday, July 12, the Mandaluyong City Police Station (Mandaluyong CPS) said the suspect is currently undergoing inquest proceedings for the filing of appropriate criminal charges in connection with the July 10 incident.
Based on the initial report of the Traffic Investigation Unit, the incident occurred around 4:12 a.m. along the westbound lane of Ortigas Avenue, in front of La Salle Green Hills in Barangay Wack-Wack.
Authorities said the Toyota Land Cruiser driven by the suspect crashed into the back of the victims' motorcycle.
Due to the impact, the motorcycle passenger died at the scene, while the motorcycle rider sustained injuries and was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.
In addition, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said videos circulating online allegedly showed that the Toyota Land Cruiser's conduction sticker was covered by a House of Representatives (HOR) sticker. The agency did not provide further details.
Police said the suspect tried to flee toward San Juan City after the collision but was later apprehended by responding officers from the San Juan City Police Station after being flagged down.
The driver was then turned over to the Mandaluyong City Police Station for proper disposition.
The suspect is currently detained at the custodial facility while charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injury, and damage to property are being prepared for filing before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor's Office.
LTO issues show cause order
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) immediately issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) to the registered owner and the driver of the Toyota Land Cruiser, directing them to appear before its Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) to explain why they should not be held liable for alleged violations, including tampering with authorized motor vehicle license plates and/or third plate sticker, reckless driving, and improper person to operate a motor vehicle, as well as other violations that may be uncovered during the ongoing investigation.
The LTO also placed the vehicle under alarm status as the investigation continues. It also imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the driver's license of the involved driver and ordered him to surrender it to the IID.
