P700,000 unregistered Korean luncheon meat seized in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – Boxes of unregistered Korean luncheon meat were seized from a Korean grocery store in Barangay Luz here on Wednesday afternoon, July 22.
The confiscation was made by operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Mandaue City Field Unit as part of “Oplan Mega Shoppers."
The operation stemmed from reports that a grocery store was selling imported luncheon meat without the required authorization from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
After conducting a thorough validation, police hatched a buy-bust operation.
Seized during the operation was 211 boxes of luncheon meat worth at least P700,000.
The FDA-Central Visayas confirmed that the seized products had no valid Certificate of Product Registration.
The establishment failed to present a License to Operate, FDA permit, and other documents authorizing it to sell the imported food products.
The store manager was taken into police custody.
Police said charges for violating Section 11(a) of Republic Act No. 9711, or the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009, will be filed against the store manager.
