Majority of Filipinos agree VP Duterte must address impeachment charges — SWS

Seven in 10 adult Filipinos believe that Vice President Sara Duterte must address the impeachment charges against her and respond to the allegations of corruption, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey conducted days before her impeachment trial was set to begin.
The June 20-29 survey showed that 70 percent agreed with the statement, while 13 percent were undecided and 17 percent disagreed.
The result gave the statement a net agreement score of +52 (percentage of those who agreed minus percentage of those who disagreed), up five points from +47 in March, when 67 percent agreed and 19 percent disagreed.
Net agreement was highest in the Visayas at +58, followed by Balance Luzon at +56, Metro Manila at +49, and Mindanao at +42.
Compared with March, net agreement increased by 15 points in the Visayas, four points in Balance Luzon, and five points in Mindanao, while it declined by seven points in Metro Manila.
74% aware of impeachment case
Meanwhile, 74 percent of adult Filipinos said they were already aware before the survey interview that the impeachment case against Vice President Duterte was with the Senate and was expected to proceed to trial.
The remaining 26 percent learned about the case only during the interview.
Awareness was highest in Metro Manila at 79 percent, followed by Mindanao at 77 percent, Balance Luzon at 74 percent, and the Visayas at 69 percent.
Awareness was also higher among Filipinos with higher levels of education.
It reached 93 percent among college graduates, compared with 56 percent among those who did not reach elementary graduation.
The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults nationwide.
It had a margin of error of +/-3 percentage points for national figures and +/-6 percentage points for figures in each major area.
SWS said the survey items on the impeachment case were non-commissioned.
