Malacañang said the P85-daily wage increase for minimum wage earners in the National Capital Region (NCR) will push through, and was not suspended.

"Hindi po, wala pong suspension. Wala pong paghihinto po dito, tuluy-tuloy po ito (No, there is no suspension. There will be no halt to this, it will continue)," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said on Tuesday, July 21.

Castro made the clarification when asked during a Palace briefing if the recently-approved wage increase was suspended.

The Palace official also said there was no information whether there were requests from the private sector to suspend the wage increase.

"Wala pong naipaabot sa atin kung may nag-request mula sa private sector pero wala pong utos na ito po ay i-suspend (We have not received an information if there was any request from the private sector, and there has been no order to suspend this)," Castro said.

According to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the wage increase for minimum wage earners will be given in two tranches.

The first installment will be given on July 25 while the remaining P25 will given be Jan. 20 next year.
