NPD denies death of motorcycle taxi rider slay suspect

Northern Police District (NPD) director Brig. Gen. Benliner Capili refuted a circulating social media post alleging that the suspect in the killing of a motorcycle taxi rider was found dead inside a detention cell.

Malabon City Police Station chief Col. Kenneth Mission confirmed in a phone interview with the Manila Bulletin that the suspect remains in custody.
“Nasa kulungan. Na-file na rin ang kaso (He remains in detention. The case has also been filed),” Mission said. “Positive na sa jail (He is already detained at the city jail),” he added.
The NPD urged the public not to believe or spread unverified information, warning that false posts may cause confusion, fear, and distrust in the justice system.
It reminded citizens that publishing false news that endangers public order is punishable under Article 154 of the Revised Penal Code, as amended by Republic Act No. 10951.
Authorities advised the public to rely only on official statements and verified social media pages of the Philippine National Police and the NPD, and to verify information before sharing online.
The suspect, identified Fabio Norberte Jr. was arrested on July 14 after allegedly killing a motorcycle rider and stealing the victim’s motorcycle.
Police said he is also linked to robbery and a previous carnapping incident, and now faces charges of homicide, robbery, and carnapping.
