- Malacañang said President Marcos remains focused on governing and is not affected by fluctuations in his survey ratings.
- The Palace said that while the President does not govern based on poll numbers, Cabinet officials still review survey results to identify areas that need greater attention.
- Malacañang also noted that Marcos is serving a single six-year term and is no longer seeking another election.
President Marcos remains focused on delivering government services and is not distracted by fluctuations in his public satisfaction ratings, Malacañang said Tuesday, following the release of a new survey showing a slight improvement in his standing.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said this following the release of the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, which showed Marcos' dissatisfaction rating improving from 49 percent to 45 percent, while his satisfaction rating stood at 38 percent.
In her press briefing, Castro said the President's commitment to governance does not depend on whether his survey numbers rise or fall.
“Siguro, every time na itatanong ninyo sa akin ang survey, every time, ito lang isasagot ko sa inyo kaya uulit-ulitin ko na lang ito—tumaas, bumaba (Perhaps every time you ask me about surveys, I will just give you the same answer over and over again—whether they go up or down),” she said.
"Ang Pangulo ay hindi po apektado ng numero, tumaas iyan, bumaba iyan (The President is not affected by the numbers, whether they go up or down),” she added.
Castro said Marcos remains focused on fulfilling his responsibilities.
"Ang focus ng Pangulo ay magtrabaho (The President's focus is to work),” she said.
“Kung ano ang kailangan maipaabot sa ating mga kababayan, iyon po ang gagawin ng ating Pangulo at ng administrasyon na ito (Whatever needs to be delivered to our fellow Filipinos, that is what the President and this administration will do),” she added.
The Palace Press Officer said that the Palace's position would remain unchanged regardless of future survey results.
"Sa susunod ulit, next month, next week, mayroon na namang survey, uulitin ko lang po ang aking sagot—tumaas, bumaba ang Pangulo ay hindi apektado ng numero (Next month or next week, when another survey comes out, I will give the same answer—whether the numbers go up or down, the President is not affected by them),” Castro said.
“Tuloy-tuloy lang po ang pagtatrabaho, hindi bakasyon (He will simply continue working, not go on vacation),” she added.
Cabinet still reviews surveys
While stressing that Marcos does not govern according to poll numbers, Castro said survey findings are still useful for members of the Cabinet.
"Hindi iyan dini-disregard at ito naman ay nakikita rin ng mga miyembro ng Gabinete ano ang dapat na i-push, ano iyong dapat na pagtuunan ng pansin (They are not disregarded. Members of the Cabinet also look at them to determine which programs should be pushed and which concerns require greater attention),” she said.
She said the administration uses public feedback to help improve the delivery of government programs and services.
'He's not running again'
Castro also pointed out that Marcos has no reason to be preoccupied with popularity ratings because he is constitutionally barred from seeking another term as President.
"Ang Pangulo, gumanda man, hindi gumanda ang survey para sa kaniya; hindi po siya maaapektuhan nito (Whether his survey ratings improve or not, the President will not be affected by them),” she said.
"In the first place, hindi naman siya tatakbo bilang Pangulo sa susunod. So, trabaho lang po ang Pangulo (In the first place, he is not running for President again. So, the President will simply continue working),” she added.
Under the 1987 Constitution, the President serves a single six-year term without reelection.
Marcos has repeatedly said throughout his presidency that he would rather be judged by the results of his administration's programs than by periodic opinion surveys, maintaining that his priority is to implement policies aimed at improving the lives of Filipinos.
