The Quezon City government is investigating an electrocution incident that claimed the lives of three individuals inside an apartment in Barangay Pinyahan on Friday, July 10.
The local government said it is coordinating with the Quezon City Department of Building Official (DBO) and the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) to determine the cause of the incident and identify possible lapses that may have contributed to the tragedy.
Initial reports showed that the victims may have been electrocuted by a grounded circuit breaker connected to an air conditioning unit inside the apartment, although authorities are still determining the exact cause of the incident.
The city government said those found responsible for the incident will face appropriate charges.
Under the Quezon City Local Building Code (City Ordinance SP-2518, S-2016), building owners are responsible for ensuring the safety of apartment occupants and securing the required permits, including the Locational Clearance, Fire Safety Inspection Certificate, and Electrical Permit.
The city government also reminded apartment and room owners to comply with safety regulations and ensure that their properties have complete permits to help prevent similar incidents.
Meanwhile, the local government said it has shouldered the victims' funeral expenses, whether the family opts for burial or cremation.
It added that educational assistance will also be provided to the victims' younger sibling through the Social Services Development Department (SSDD).
