President Marcos will travel to Singapore this week for a three-day working visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic cooperation, and reinforcing regional collaboration ahead of the city-state's assumption of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) chairmanship next year.
In a press briefing on Monday, July 13, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced that the trip will start on Tuesday, July 14, until Thursday, July 16.
She said the visit forms part of the administration's efforts to further deepen ties between the Philippines and Singapore, one of the country's closest partners in Southeast Asia.
During the visit, Marcos is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, during which the two leaders are expected to discuss ways to broaden cooperation in key areas.
Castro said the meeting will focus on expanding collaboration in trade and investment, environmental protection, healthcare, and regional and global development.
The two leaders are also expected to reaffirm the Philippines' and Singapore's shared commitment to ASEAN centrality and regional stability.
The working visit comes as the Philippines continues to chair ASEAN this year, with Singapore set to assume the rotating chairmanship in 2027.
Singapore has consistently been among the Philippines' top trading partners and largest sources of foreign direct investments, with cooperation spanning trade, digital economy, defense, education, labor, and public governance.
Promoting investments
During his visit, President Marcos will also participate in a private roundtable discussion organized by the Milken Institute at the Philippine Embassy in Singapore, where he is expected to meet with business executives and investors.
According to Castro, the engagement is part of the administration's continuing efforts to attract more investments following the Philippines' recent elevation to upper-middle-income country status by the World Bank.
The President has made investment promotion a key component of his foreign engagements, holding similar meetings with business leaders during his recent official visits to Canada, Japan, the United States, and several ASEAN member states.
The administration hopes increased foreign investments will generate more jobs, stimulate economic growth, and support the country's long-term development goals.
First Lady to attend economic summit
Meanwhile, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos will deliver remarks at the Global Economic Cooperation East Summit upon the invitation of the Future Economic Cooperation Council.
The India-based platform brings together business executives and government leaders to promote global strategic economic cooperation and strengthen partnerships across regions.
The First Lady's participation will complement the administration's broader efforts to promote the Philippines as an attractive destination for investment and international collaboration.
