PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro and Vice President Sara Duterte
After Vice President Sara Duterte urged government officials to stop politicking and focus on peace, order, and development, Malacañang fired back, saying she should instead tell her own allies to stop engaging in political maneuvering.
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro hit Duterte and her allies, whom she did not name, for "spreading fake news to destroy President Marcos and his administration."
"Ang dapat pagsabihan ni VP Sara ay yung mga kaalyado niya na puro pamumulitika at pagkakalat ng fake news para sirain si Pangulong Marcos, Jr. at ang administrasyon upang iluklok siya kaagad na Pangulo kahit wala pang 2028 (Vice President Sara should be addressing her own allies, who are engaging in political maneuvering and spreading fake news to discredit President Marcos Jr. and the administration so she can be installed as President even before 2028)," Castro said in a statement on Friday, July 10.
Castro also questioned the call to stop pursuing transparency and accountability, emphasizing that it is part of the mandate of every public servant in the first place.
"Bakit titigilan ang pagsulong ng transparency and accountability? Parte ito ng mandato at obligasyon ng bawat public servant (Why should the pursuit of transparency and accountability be stopped? These are part of the mandate and obligation of every public servant)," Castro said.
The Palace spokesperson stressed that it is the obligation of the Vice President to answer the allegations against her, pointing out that "concealing the truth is a betrayal of the nation.
"Obligasyon niya bilang Bise Presidente na sagutin ang mga inaakusa sa kanya. Ang pagtatago ng katotohanan patungkol rito ay pagtataksil sa bayan ( As Vice President, it is her duty to answer the allegations against her. Concealing the truth about these matters is a betrayal of the nation)," Castro said.
According to Castro, no one is playing politics as the impeachment trial against Duterte is provided for under the Constitution.
"Walang namumulitika rito; ang impeachment trial ay nakasaad sa ating Konstitusyon (No one is playing politics here—the impeachment trial is provided for in our Constitution)," she said.
She further said that President Marcos is focused on maintaining order, peace, and the country's development, and criticized the Vice President for doing "nothing" in terms of peace and development.
"Walang patid ang pagtatrabaho ng Pangulo kahit na ang Bise Presidente ay mas madalas na nakabasyon at umaalis ng bansa. Ano ba ang naitulong na ng Bise Presidente sa Pangulo patungkol sa kaayusan, kapayapaan at kaunlaran ng bansa? Wala (The President continues to work tirelessly, even though the Vice President is more often on vacation and traveling abroad. What has the Vice President done to help the President in promoting order, peace, and the country's development? Nothing)," Castro said.
