No tears for Eala in defeat: Solon praises Pinoy tennis star's epic Wimbledon run

House Assistant Minority Leader Bagong Henerasyon (BH) Party-list Rep. Robert Nazal refuses to shed any tears for Filipino tennis sensation Alex Eala, despite her fourth-round exit from Wimbledon.
"For eight straight days Alex Eala inspired millions of Filipinos with her historic feat in the grandest of stages in the tennis world, Wimbledon," Nazal said on Tuesday, July 7.
"Every round won by Alex, including her victory over the defending champion and world number 3 Iga Swiatek, not only brought joy to a country when it needed it the most, but also introduced her to the world as a must-watch athlete," he said.
Crowd favorite Eala fell to Italian 13th seed Jasmine Paolini, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6, on Centre Court at London’s All England Club on Monday. The game capped the 21-year-old best showing at the tournament.
For Nazal, Eala has nothing to be ashamed of.
"Her Wimbledon journey was cut short but Alex can hold her head up high for her courage—not backing down against any of the higher ranked and more experienced names in the sport, and for her strong presence on and off the court—charming everyone with her grace and humility," he said.
The party-list solon said Eala has nowhere to go but up in her tennis career.
"This is just the beginning for Alex and with all the hard work that she puts in day-in and day-out, I have no doubt in my mind that she will continue to rise up the rankings and become a household name in tennis and in Philippine sports."
As a parting message, Nazal said: "We are proud of you Alex. May you continue to inspire young girls and boys to work hard to attain their dreams."
