CEBU CITY – Police have pinpointed the individual who used social media to threaten teachers here.
The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said the threats directed to the teachers of the Inayawan National High School was the handiwork of a 13-year-old former student of the school.
The CCPO said an investigation was conducted into messages threatening Grade 7 and Grade 8 teachers and the school principal after they circulated online.
On July 5, police invited a boy who owned and used the social media account to spread the threats.
Accompanied by his mother, the boy admitted posting the threats and personally accessing the social media account used in the incident through his cellular phone.
The Barangay Inayawan Gender and Development (GAD) focal person and an assistant investigator from the Women and Children Protection Desk were present during the interview.
Police Col. Ricky Sumalde, chief of the CCPO, said appropriate intervention has been made since the incident involved a minor.
Sumalde said police are serious about uncovering those responsible for making threats online.
"This incident demonstrates the capability and commitment of our police investigators to promptly identify individuals who use social media to spread threats and fear. We want the public to know that there is accountability in cyberspace," Sumalde said.
The city has been rocked by spate of shooting threats in schools. A mall and a condominium were targeted by bomb threats that turned out to be a hoax.
