Vice President Sara Duterte has expressed her gratitude to her family’s supporters, particularly those in Mindanao, for continuing to stand by the Duterte family despite what she described as hardships and attacks against them.
Speaking during the 60th Araw ng Nunungan celebration in Lanao del Norte, Duterte said the family's strength does not come from its name or political positions but from the people who continue to support them.
"Ang amoang kusog dili gikan sa amoang apelyido, dili gikan sa amoang pangalan (Our strength does not come from our surname or our name),” she said on Tuesday, June 23.
"Ang amoang kusog gikan kaninyo mga kaigsuonan namo (Our strength comes from you, our brothers and sisters),” she added.
Duterte, who is facing impeachment, singled out supporters from Mindanao, saying they never abandoned her despite the challenges faced by their family.
"Tungod sa tanan nga mga pagpalisod-lisod, pagdaug-daug, wala gyud ko ninyo biya-i (Despite all the hardships and oppression, you never abandoned me),” she said.
"Dako kaayo ang akoang pagpasalamat sa inyong padayon nga pagsalig ug suporta (I am deeply grateful for your continued trust and support),” she added.
Message from ex-PRRD
The Vice President also conveyed a message from her father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, who she said asked her to personally thank supporters for their prayers and loyalty.
"Si dating presidente Rodrigo Duterte nagpa-abot pud siya saiyahang pasalamat sa inyo (Former President Rodrigo Duterte also extends his gratitude to all of you),” she said.
"Nagpasalamat pud siya sa inyo ... sa inyong suporta sa unom ka tuig nga siya nahimong Presidente sa atuang nasud (He also thanked you for your support during the six years that he served as President of our country),” she added.
The Vice President said their family remains indebted to supporters for the opportunities given to them to serve the country.
"Malaki ang utang na loob namin sa inyo, mga kababayan (We owe a great debt of gratitude to you, our fellow Filipinos),” she said.
Former president Rodrigo Duterte has been under custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, the Netherlands following his arrest in March last year for crimes against humanity in relation to his drug war. His trial is set to start on Nov. 30.
