Despite being President Marcos' biggest rival in the 2022 elections, Malacañang has commended Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo for recognizing the administration's efforts to address the country's housing shortage.
Before concluding the one-hour-long Palace briefing on Tuesday, June 23, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro lauded Robredo for having her eyes and heart open to the programs of the Marcos administration.
A true public servant is not blind to the work and programs of the government, does not tear others down for personal advancement, nor make a joke out of a person’s health, life, or death)," Castro said.
The former opponent of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. during the 2022 campaign, Mayor Leni Robredo, has her eyes and heart open to the government’s programs)," Castro added.
It came after Robredo mentioned the President while thanking the national government for its "aggressive" housing programs for the homeless.
In an interview, which was also played during the briefing, the former vice president stated that "for a very long time, we did not see the national government being this aggressive as far as housing is concerned," citing that when she served as chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) under the previous administration, "there was almost no budget for housing."
A former political rival now recognizes the President’s diligence and dedication, as well as that of his Cabinet members, in serving the public)," Castro also said.
There was no pulling each other down or mudslinging, only dedicated work for the people)," Castro added.
The Palace spokesperson's welcome of the former vice president's remarks came as a prelude to her call to the public not to be deceived by those "pretending to be public servants."
So do not be deceived by those who pretend to be public servants but do nothing but criticize and seek to blind the public to the fact that this government is working, serving the people, and not merely taking a vacation)," Castro said.
