Risa says she's willing to run for prez in 2028

CEBU CITY – Sen. Risa Hontiveros expressed willingness to run for president in the 2028 elections.

During a speaking engagement at the Phinma-Southwestern University here on Friday, June 19, Hontiveros said she is preparing for the possibility of going up against Vice President Sara Duterte, who already declared her intention to run for president in 2028.

“I’m seriously considering it, preparing for that possibility,” said Hontiveros.

Thanking the people who expressed support for her possible presidential run, Hontiveros emphasized the need for her group to come up with the best candidate against the highly popular Duterte.

“I think it is really necessary na magkaroon kami, from our ranks, ng strongest, best, most attractive and hopeful offer sa ating mga kababayan and mga kapwa botante,” said Hontiveros.

Hontiveros is hoping that her group can come up with a common candidate by the end of the year or in the early part of next year.

“I’m looking forward to that moment na…end of this year or at the very, very latest first quarter next year, magkaisa kami sa aming ranks around whoever will emerge as the strongest contender. Magkaisa kami na there can only be one so that may fighting chance,” she said.

Hontiveros’ pronouncements came after a national movement pushing her presidency in 2028 was launched early this year. The Risa Na! Movement is led by Akbayan party-list and Magdalo party-list.
