Since it has been a yearly tradition for me to travel on my birthday (June 8, ha—habol sa mga gifts!), I decided to spend it in Bangkok, Thailand.
My usual first stop is the gallery of Thai artist Prapaipan Yantaporn in Chatuchak. I always make it a point to support some of her masterpieces during every visit (kung pwede lang bitbitin lahat!). I also tour the other art galleries in the area (food for the soul ko ’yan!).
On my birthday, I went to Wat Arun (para maganda ang birthday post!). I’ve visited several temples in Bangkok before, but this was my first time experiencing this one. From Pratunam, I took the ferry to reach the area, which took around 15 minutes (kaya ’wag mo ’kong ma-ferry-ferry!).
Wat Arun is an iconic tourist destination. It is also called the Temple of Dawn, located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River in the Thonburi district. (umiilaw pa ang mga templo pag gabi!) It symbolizes hope and spiritual light (o di ba, magandang segue sa mismong birthday!). I really felt that celebrating my special day here was meant to be, because I pledge to live a life of meaning and purpose (and dapat with prosperity!).
Traditional Thai costumes are available for rent for tourists who want to complete the full Thai look in their photos. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance to try it, as I only had my own pictorial in my outfit (di ko kasi kasama ang glam team ko!).
I seldom ride taxis or their traditional motorcycle taxis, tuk-tuks (mga hari ng kalsada ’yan!), because I don’t want to get stuck in their usual heavy traffic. I prefer taking the BTS (walang kinalaman si Jungkook ha!)—the Bangkok Mass Transit System, or Skytrain—which is efficient and reliable (kahit saan lupalop ka pumunta, may paraan ang kanilang train!).
But there was one day when I opted to take the traditional train to reach Talat Noi (para cinematic ang effect ko!). It is the oldest neighborhood in Bangkok, known for its Instagrammable alleys, coffee shops, galleries, and street art (artsy artsy ka, ateng!).
Bangkok’s weather is hot and humid (minsan para kang nasa microwave oven!), but this month also marks the start of the rainy season. Scattered rain showers usually appear in the afternoon (delubyo levels ang lakas!). That’s why I also tried some indoor activities, like Cave Fantasy, a virtual interactive attraction (mga pailaw na 3D kineme!), and Sea Life, which features large aquariums (with matching mga pating-pating!).
I’m thankful for all the good souls I met on this trip, including Thai locals who kindly gave me the right directions (di naman ako niligaw!), and some fellow Pinoys who asked for photos (alam n’yo na, feeling celeb!). See you again, Bangkok! Khop Khun Khrap! (pwede na ’kong maging endorser ng mango sticky rice ng Thailand!)
