CEBU CITY – No major incidents were reported during the opening of classes here on Monday, June 8.
Police Lt. Col. Franco Rodulf Oriol, deputy city director for administration of the Cebu City Police Office, said police were deployed in 57 public schools in the city.
“Based on our assessment, we recorded zero incidents during the opening. We are hoping that this will be replicated when some private schools will have their own class openings,” Oriol said.
Oriol added that to ensure the safety of learners, parents, and teachers, police were deployed even before the schools opened.
Force multipliers such as barangay tanods (watchmen) and traffic personnel were also on hand to ensure a smooth traffic flow near schools.
“Police were also deployed in night high schools to safeguard our students on their way home,” Oriol said.
The CCPO reminded motorists to slow down when approaching school zones to avoid accidents. “To all drivers, let’s be more patient because now that classes have started, school zones will be busier,” Oriol added.
The deployment of police in school zones will continue in the succeeding days. Policemen will only be pulled put from schools if ordered by the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas, Oriol said.
