YLANAN
CEBU CITY – After just six months in office, Police Col. George Ylanan has been removed as chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO).
Ylanan made the announcement of his relief on Monday, June 8.
He said he received the relief order last week and was transferred to the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7) where he will be the chief of the Comptrollership Division.
Police Col. Arnel Apud, the current Deputy Regional Director for Operations of PRO-7, will be the new CCPO chief in an acting capacity.
“I did my best for Cebu City, so to the men and women, good day to all of you. This is your city director signing off,” Ylanan said during the traditional Monday flag-raising ceremony.
Under Ylanan’s leadership, the CCPO strengthened its law enforcement operations.
Data from Nov. 14, 2025 to July 4 showed that index crime in the city dropped by 3.56 percent while non-index crime fell by 9.64 percent.
During Ylanan’s tenure, the CCPO conducted 194 operations against loose firearms that led to the arrest of 176 suspects and confiscation of 179 firearms.
The CCPO also arrested 515 wanted persons, including 112 most wanted persons.
A total of 1,424 anti-illegal drug operations were conducted, resulting in the arrest of 1,514 drug suspects and the seizure of P94-million worth of illegal drugs.
The CCPO successfully secured the Sinulog Grand Parade last January despite the massive 5.2-million crowd turnout.
During his stint as CCPO chief, Ylanan received various awards for outstanding leadership, exemplary service, and professionalism in safeguarding major and international events.
Ylanan received a special Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Leadership in Peace and Order.
The CCPO ranked No. 1 in Unit Performance Evaluation Rating during the first quarter of 2026 under Ylanan.
