President Marcos is planning to visit areas affected by the strong earthquake in Mindanao, Malacañang said.
When asked whether Marcos has plans to visit Mindanao following the 7.8-magnitude earthquake, Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said he does, but there is no exact date yet.
"Mayroon po. Hindi ko po maibibigay iyong eksaktong araw pero mayroon po siyang balak na pumunta, naka-schedule po iyon (He has plans. We cannot give the exact date yet but he has plans to go, it has been scheduled)," Castro said in a Palace briefing on Tuesday, June 9.
On Monday, Castro said Marcos is not expected to visit the earthquake-hit areas, explaining that the President does not want attention, which must be fully directed to response operations, to be given to him during a visit.
Prioritize patients, hospitals
In a situation briefing held in Malacañan on Tuesday, Marcos directed the Department of Health (DOH) to ensure that patients in hospitals hit by the earthquake are being prioritized in the response operations.
"Sa isinagawang situation briefing kaninang umaga sa Malacañang, binigyang-diin ng Pangulo na dapat unahing bisitahin ang mga ospital at maghanap ng mga lugar kung saan ligtas ang mga pasyente mula sa epekto ng lindol (In a situation briefing this morning in Malacañan, the President stressed the need to prioritized hospitals and look for safe places for patients)," Castro said.
He directed the secretaries of DOH and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to conduct an assessment as soon as possible.
The President also ordered the Department of Energy (DOE) to also prioritize the restoration and supply of electricity to hospitals, stressing that patients in areas affected by the powerful earthquake require immediate attention.
During the situation briefing, Marcos reminded government agencies that they must continue its preparedness efforts and always keep disaster victims in mind.
"Laging isipin ang mga biktima ng mga sakuna at gawing motivation sa kanilang pagsisilbi sa bayan ang mga taong walang matulungan at walang makain sa mga oras ng sakuna (Always keep disaster victims in mind and use as motivation in their public service the plight of those who have no one to help them and nothing to eat during times of disaster)," Castro said quoting the President.
