The Valenzuela City government assigned 150 Bantay Estudyante volunteers from District 2 to help keep students safe as classes resume for School Year 2026–2027.

Mayor Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian led the awarding of certificates to the volunteers at Bitik Elementary School on Sunday, June 7, in recognition of their service.

The volunteers, most of whom are senior citizens, will help manage traffic and maintain order near school zones during the Balik-Eskwela season.

They also received Panatag Emergency Kits and safety kits containing stop-and-go signs, traffic gloves, caps, reflector vests, tumblers, towels, and whistles.

The city government earlier held a refresher course for Bantay Estudyante personnel and volunteers to guide them on their duties.

On the same day, the city government also inspected classrooms, pedestrian lanes, and school pathways for possible safety hazards.

Repair and maintenance works were conducted in public schools, while the City Health Office carried out fogging and sanitation measures.

The safety preparations follow the city’s earlier distribution of free school kits to more than 78,000 public elementary students under the Education 360 Degrees Investment Program Plus.

A total of 78,453 learners from Kindergarten to Grade 6 in 44 public elementary schools received school supplies, lunch boxes, tumblers, and backpacks.

Almost 1,000 learners under the Special Needs Education program also received support.
