'Sana mas marami pa ang makulong': Mayor Vico urges vigilance vs corruption

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto urged the public to remain vigilant against corruption following the arrest of contractor Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya at the Senate on Monday, June 8.
“Sana mas marami pa ang makulong (I hope more people will be jailed),” Sotto said in a social media post.
Discaya was arrested at the Senate over a malversation case linked to an alleged anomalous flood control project in Bulacan.
The arrest was reportedly ordered by the Bulacan Regional Trial Court Branch 20.

Sotto said the move showed that there is progress in efforts to expose and address corruption, even as many Filipinos remain frustrated over the situation in the country.
“Minsan nakakadismaya na ang mga nangyayari sa ating bansa; iniisip ko na lang na ‘at least’ kahit papaano, may progreso (Sometimes, what is happening in our country can be discouraging; I just think that at least, somehow, there is progress),” he said.
The mayor said the flood control controversy is only one example of how corruption can exploit weaknesses in the system.
“Tomorrow, the same things will happen again, unless we continue to fight and de-normalize corruption,” Sotto said.
He urged the public to stay informed, think critically, and continue pressing the government to ensure accountability.
Sotto also responded to those asking why he has repeatedly mentioned Discaya and Lipana, saying he speaks only on matters where he has personal knowledge and evidence.
“Alangan naman magpupuputak ako sa bagay na napanood ko lang din sa news (Of course, I would not make noise about something I only watched on the news),” he said.
