'Marcos na rin': Cayetano takes swipe at ex-Senate leaders over shift to PBBM

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano on Saturday, June 6, criticized former Senate Presidents Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III and Franklin Drilon over what he considered a sudden change in their political views.

This, after the two former Senate leaders, along with Senators Vicente "Tito" Sotto III and Juan Miguel Zubiri, issued a joint statement urging senators to de-escalate internal tensions and resolve the ongoing leadership dispute in the chamber.
Cayetano questioned what he described as a shift in political stance among Pimentel and Drilon. He said that individuals who were previously staunch "anti-Marcos personalities" now appeared to be supportive of the administration.
He made similar remarks about Senator Risa Hontiveros and political analyst Ronald Llamas, and suggested they had also softened their stance toward the Marcos administration.
“Talagang puring-puri na sa Marcos administration. So, naging Marcos na rin (They're really praising the Marcos administration now. They're now for Marcos too),” Cayetano said.
After a lengthy explanation on a variety of topics, he returned to the "Marcos na rin" discussion and dropped more names, including Senator Bam Aquino and Kiko Aquino-Dee.
He underscored the political legacy and positioning of both.
“Legacy din ng mga Aquino is to sacrifice for the nation. So, if your sacrifice is fighting the Dutertes, fighting, okay yun. Pero okay sa inyo baboy yung Senado. Okay sa inyo huwag ilabas yung totoo sa flood control (Also part of the Aquino legacy is sacrificing for the nation. So if your sacrifice is fighting Duterte, that’s fine. But for you, it’s okay to make a mess of the Senate? It’s okay for you not to reveal the truth about flood control?)” he said.
In the same statement, Cayetano highlighted the “laban” hand gesture, and linked it to historical opposition movements.
“Hiramin ko muna. Kasi hindi nyo ginagamit eh (I'll borrow it. You're not using it anyway),” he said.
Cayetano added that the idea of “laban” should remain relevant, warning that people should continue to stand up for accountability.
