The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will be issuing a subpoena to Sen. Robin Padilla and Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Mao Aplasca in connection with the alleged escape of Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on May 14.
Aside from the two, NBI Director Melvin A. Matibag said the bureau will issue the subpoenas this week to Pasay City police chief Joselito De Sesto, Padilla’s uncle Virgilio Carino and deputy chief of staff Jean Robles.
He explained that the subpoenas will be issued to the four because they are “the personalities na nakita talaga naman na nakasama niya before siya nawala (that we saw that were last with dela Rosa).”
Meanwhile, Matibag said the NBI is considering also issuing a subpoena to dela Rosa’s wife Nancy.
“We are not considering the wife of Sen. Bato as suspect or anything but to shed light,” he assured.
“People should understand hindi iniisyu subpoena dahil automatic akusado ka (the subpoena is not issued because you are automatically considered a suspect),” he added.
Dela Rosa is the subject of an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) which named him a co-perpetrator in a crimes against humanity case concerning the drug war of former President Rodrigo Duterte.
The senator managed to evade arrest when he appeared at the Senate on May 11.
The lawmaker managed to slip out of the Senate at around 2:30 a.m. on May 14 and, since then, has yet to be located by law enforcement.
