CEBU CITY – The Horti Filipina International Plant Show made a successful return here, gathering sellers and plant enthusiasts from across the country.
The show was held from May 22 to 24 at the Mountain Wing Atrium of SM City Seaside.
“The reception was really great. A lot came especially because we have more sellers from Cebu this year compared to last year,” said Tiffany Cham, one of the show’s organizers.
The show hosted over 40 commercial participants in a diverse roster of exhibitors, including top growers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
“We were given a smaller place this year that’s why we have fewer exhibitors but the variety of plants were more varied,” added Cham.
Cham said they decided to stage the show back in Cebu for the second straight year due to public clamor.
“Cebu is an ideal place for the show because it is very accessible. It’s easier for those from Negros, Iloilo, or Mindanao to come here compared to going to Manila,” said Cham.
The premiere horticulture show’s core attraction was the plant competition where breeders and collectors presented their finest specimens for the “Best in Show” award.
Showcasing plants that are rare to find, organizers intend to bring back the show to Cebu next year.
“We are already getting inquiries on how to join next year. They are looking forward to next year because plants that are not usually seen in garden centers or those that are collectible plants can be seen in the show,” said Christopher Castillo, a co-organizer.
