BACOLOD CITY – A 38-year-old former member of the Rebolusyonaryong Partidong Manggagawa ng Pilipinas/Revolutionary Proletarian Army/Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) was shot dead in Purok Vanda, Barangay Santol, Binalbagan, Negros Occidental on Tuesday, May 19.
Police said that the victim Joseph was walking on his way home when an unidentified person appeared and shot him.
Joseph sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot.
Recovered from the area were six fired .45 caliber bullets.
Police Capt. Joelan Vinson, Binalbagan police chief, said the victim may have been tailed or monitored by the suspect.
He added that the victim had no record in the barangay or police. Authorities are probing the motive of the incident.
The RPA-ABB is a breakaway group of the Communist Party of the Philippines- New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) which split in 1996 due to ideological differences.
In 2000, the RPA-ABB signed a peace agreement with the national government under President Joseph Estrada.
In September 2019, President Rodrigo Duterte led the formal demilitarization of former RPA-ABB combatants in Camp Peralta in Iloilo.
