Actress Sue Ramirez opened up about the next chapter of her life while discussing her upcoming film with OPM icon Rico Blanco.
“Project Baby” follows Sandy Montecillo (Sue Ramirez), a driven advertising agency founder in her 30s who has carefully planned every part of her life except motherhood. Feeling her biological clock ticking as a “trentahin,” she decides it’s time to have a child on her own terms. Determined to avoid love and commitment, she launches “Project Baby,” a no-strings-attached search for the perfect baby daddy. After a series of failed matches, she meets Migo Andrade (Rico Blanco), an emotionally attuned artist who unexpectedly proves to be the ideal candidate.
During the May 16 media conference at a Quezon City mall, Sue described the movie as “a love letter to all the women who paved the way for women to have open choices now.”
The Regal film tackles the ever-evolving choices of modern women. For Sue, “Project Baby” is more than a rom-com.
“You’re not gonna only watch this to have fun, but also to widen ‘yung pang-unawa natin sa mga choices na puwedeng gawin ng mga kababaihan.”
She added that the film promotes women empowerment by opening conversations about choice, independence, and (re)defining motherhood on one’s own terms.
Turning thirty this year, she spoke about the inevitable pressure of starting motherhood and family life. “Am I really ready for it, or is this just impulse?”
The actress admitted that preparing for motherhood is far more complex than she once imagined.
Her insights on parenthood also changed over the years.
“Siguro dati sasabihin mo lang ‘gusto kong magka-anak,’ pero ang daming preparations na kailangan gawin. Kasi dati lagi ko ‘yang sinasabi. ‘Aww, gusto kong maging mommy.’ ‘Yung realidad na kailangan mo talaga siyang paghandaan, hindi siya bastang desisyon lang.”
While the idea of becoming a mother has always appealed to her ever since, maturity has taught her that wanting a child and being ready for one are entirely different things.
“Iba ‘yung talagang ready ka,” Ramirez assured.
Despite the uncertainties, one thing remains sure for the actress: if she ever becomes a mother, she hopes to follow the example set by her own mom.
“Gusto kong maging nanay na tulad ng nanay ko,” she said, a statement that highlights the admiration and gratitude she carries for the woman who raised her.
When asked about future plans and the possibility of having a child with boyfriend Dominic Roque, she confidently responded, “Why not! Sana, kung ibibigay. I think Dominic would be a very, very good father.”
“Kung kilala niyo lang talaga kung sino si Dom—napakabuti, napakabait, napaka family-oriented, God-fearing,” she shared.
“I think sobrang perfect. Lagi ko sinasabi sa posts ko, ang suwerte ko talaga. ‘Yun talaga nafe-feel ko. Minsan, ‘pag tinitingnan ko siya, napapa-‘thank You, Lord’ ako. Hindi ko inexpect at almost 30 makakahanap pa ako ng sobrang bait.”
“Project Baby” is directed by Eric Quizon and written by Joey Javier Reyes. It also stars Alice Dixson, Matt Lozano, Charuth, Arra San Agustin, Yasser Marta, Kimson Tan, Jazzil Sarinas, and Alex Calleja. It opens in cinemas on June 10.
