DOJ forms panel to probe Senate shooting incident; orders submission of evidence by May 20

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has formed a panel of prosecutors to investigate the May 13 shooting incident involving the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Senate’s Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms.
DOJ Acting Secretary Fredderick A. Vida said the panel will look into the circumstances surrounding the confrontation at the Senate complex as part of an ongoing inquiry.
He also directed all concerned law enforcement agencies, including the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the NBI, to submit by May 20 all relevant evidence and records covering events at the Senate complex from May 11 to May 14.
The DOJ will also request the Office of the Senate President to direct the Senate’s Office of the Sergeant-at-Arms to submit its own report, along with all pertinent evidence, including closed-circuit television footage, ballistic and paraffin test results, deployment records, communication logs, incident reports, witness statements, and other forensic and documentary materials.
Vida also called on the public, including members of the media, to submit any verified or verifiable evidence that may help establish the facts surrounding the incident.
