Around 900 PDLs in Occ Mindoro suspected with tuberculosis
Almost 900 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) of the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro are suspected to be suffering from tuberculosis, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said.
The BuCor said this was discovered during the Active Case Finding (ACF) activity that was conducted at the SPPF from April 27 to May 1.
The bureau said “a total of 892 PDL revealed results of CXR (chest x-ray) suggestive of Pulmonary TB (PTB), which will be subsequently referred for further diagnostic testing.”
Meanwhile, the bureau assured that it remains committed to providing health services for its PDLs including controlling and preventing TB.
The ACF was held at the SPPF Hospital and conducted with the Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), and the Provincial Health Office (PHO) of Occidental Mindoro.
A total of 2,393 PDLs and 40 prison personnel underwent CXR.
“The initiative was made possible in support of the intensified campaign of the government against Tuberculosis (TB),” said the bureau.
“Particularly, this initiative aimed to detect early TB cases of PDL and ensure its timely management and treatment,” it added.
