NPA rebel wanted for ambush of 14 soldiers falls

Police have arrested in Diffun, Quirino a 44-year-old New People’s Army rebel wanted for the ambush of 14 soldiers after more than a decade in hiding.
The suspect, Ka Ariel, was apprehended on May 5 on a warrant dated Feb. 4, 2014 for multiple murder with no bail recommended.
The suspect was linked to an ambush on June 27, 2000 in Barangay Linomot, Jones, Isabela, where 14 soldiers, including Col. Josefino Manayao, commanding officer of the 502nd Brigade, on their way back to headquarters from a medical mission were killed.
Police Col. Paul T. Bometivo, director of the Nueva Vizcaya Police Provincial Office, commended operating units for their achievement.
The arrest underscores the police force’s persistence in pursuing justice and holding offenders accountable, he said.
The suspect is under the custody of the Bayombong Police Station for documentation and legal proceedings.
