National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin A. Matibag on Monday, May 4, said he will look into who was behind the spread online of a video that showed him arguing and making threats against another person.
Matibag pointed this out during a press conference after the person in the video, Mel Sabio, filed criminal complaints against those suspected behind the spread online of the audio and video of the argument between him and the NBI chief.
“Kung ano ang reklamo n’ya susugan ko na lang ‘yun (Whatever his complaint is I will follow it up),” Matibag said.
Sabio said a case for violation of the Data Privacy Act has been filed but declined to name who are respondents in the case.
“Medyo affected na rin ‘yung aking family syempre kasi lumalabas na ‘yung ano pati pangalan ko. So minabuti kong magfile na ng kaso (May family has been affected from what has came out because I got dragged in the issue. So I decided to file a case),” said Sabio.
The complainant said the recording of the argument happened in 2020 when he was still a member of an opposing political party.
“Nagkaroon kami ng pag-uusap ni atty sa telephono. After naman ng ilang weeks nagkaayos ho kami, nagkausap po kami at nagkapatawaran (We had a talk on the phone. After some weeks we settled the issue, had a talk and exchanged apologies),” he recounted.
When Sabio saw the video of the argument, he said “ako ho parang nagulat kasi matagal na ho ‘yun (I was surprised because it happened a long time ago).”
Matibag said his outbursts happened when his wife, Laguna 1st District Rep. Ann Matibag, was pregnant.
“It’s unfortunate na merong mga grupo na gustong gamitin ‘yung one of the moment na sasabihan na weak point of your life para itulak ‘yung kanilang gusto na mangyari at gawin ang mangyari (that there groups who want to use one of the weaks points of your life for what they want to happen),” he said.
