Taguig SK chairman donates April salary after helmetless ride
A Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) chairman in Taguig donated his salary for April after he was seen riding a motorcycle without a helmet.
Ivan Guzman, SK chairman of Barangay Upper Bicutan, and Glenn Gacusan, SK kagawad, apologized after they were seen riding a motorcycle without helmets last April 24.
To make up for the violation, Guzman announced that his salary for April was used to give out free helmets to fellow motorists who they actually saw not wearing helmets while they roamed around.
“Hindi ito para burahin ang pagkakamali, kundi para magsilbing paalala at hakbang tungo sa mas ligtas na kalsada para sa lahat (This is not to erase the mistake, but to serve as a reminder and step towards safer roads for all),” he posted on Facebook along with a video showing him giving out helmets to motorists.
As SK chairman, he said, he admitted his shortcomings that should not be imitated. He
“Nakuhaan ako ng litrato na hindi nakasuot ng helmet—isang simpleng batas na dapat ako mismo ang unang sumusunod. Hindi ito dapat tularan, at malinaw na hindi ito ang ehemplong nais kong ipakita (I was photographed not wearing a helmet—a simple law that I myself should be the first to follow. This should not be imitated, and it is clear that this is not the example I want to set),” he explained.
Guzman said for every helmet that he donated, it has a lesson that leadership is not just about words but in action and responsibility.
“Magsuot ng helmet, hindi dahil may nanghuhuli, kundi dahil mahalaga ang buhay (Wear a helmet, not because someone is catching you, but because life is precious),” he said.
