Malacañang said it is too early to discuss potential candidates for the 2028 presidential elections, as President Marcos remains focused on governance amid ongoing national and global challenges.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said this when asked if President Marcos has already chosen the person he will campaign for as his successor.
In her press briefing on Monday, April 27, Castro said it was still too early to talk about the upcoming polls.
“Sa ngayon… napakaaga pa po pag-usapan kung sino ang tatakbo sa pagkapangulo sa susunod na eleksyon (For now, it is still too early to talk about who will run for president in the next election),” she said.
The Palace Press Officer said the President is prioritizing pressing concerns, particularly the impact of global developments on the country.
“Hindi muna po pamumulitika ang focus ng Pangulo sa ngayon; trabaho po muna (Politics is not the President’s focus for now; it’s work first),” she said.
She noted that the administration is currently addressing the effects of the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly on fuel supply.
Castro added that the government is also focused on delivering assistance to Filipinos affected by rising costs.
“Tutok po ang Pangulo… sa tuloy-tuloy na supply ng produktong petrolyo at sa mga ayuda para sa ating mga kababayan (The President is focused on ensuring steady fuel supply and providing assistance to our people),” she said.
When pressed about whether Marcos is already talking to potential candidates, Castro said she was not aware of such developments.
“Hindi ko pa nadidinig (I haven’t heard it yet),” she said.
