Stray cats are part of the everyday scene in most city spaces. In Araneta City, they are now being treated as part of the community.
The Araneta City complex has launched “CoMEOWnity,” a program that focuses on the care and welfare of stray cats across its properties in Cubao. Introduced under its Pet Pals initiative, the effort brings together partners, tenants, and visitors in a more structured approach to animal care.
“CoMEOWnity brings together our valued partners, patrons, cat lovers, and everyone who shares a deep compassion for stray cats,” said Marjorie Go, vice president for marketing of Araneta City Inc. “Through this initiative, we hope to create a city where every stray cat feels safe, respected, and cared for.”
At its core, the program focuses on day-to-day needs, regular feeding, shelter, and access to veterinary care. These are supported through partnerships with groups such as Pet Kingdom, CARA Welfare Philippines, City Cats Cubao, and Cats of Araneta City, creating a shared network of support within the area.

A key part of the initiative is its Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) effort, carried out with CARA Welfare Philippines. The approach is designed to manage the stray population in a humane and sustainable way, while ensuring that cats remain healthy within their environment.
Rescued cats are housed at an on-site cattery, where they receive food and medical attention. From there, the program also looks at long-term outcomes through adoption drives. During its first adoption event at Ali Mall on April 12, all of the cats put up for adoption were taken in by new owners.

The initiative is also dedicated to the late chef Margarita Forés, whose known affection for cats, particularly strays, continues to influence efforts like this.
“Through programs like CoMEOWnity, we are in the high hopes that it will encourage greater awareness and shared responsibility toward stray cats,” Marjorie added. “Compassion and empathy are at the heart of who we are—and through them, we affirm our responsibility to care for those who cannot care for themselves.”
