CEBU CITY – A Coast Guard personnel was caught inside a suspected drug den raided by agents of the Philippine Drug Agency-Central Visayas (PDEA-7) in Barangay Mambaling here.
The PDEA-7 said Neil, a 27-year-old apprentice seaman of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), was one of the two men allegedly caught sniffing shabu when the drug den was raided past noon on Wednesday, April 22.
According to Leia Alcantara, Neil, a native of Barili, Cebu, joined the PCG three years ago. He is assigned to the PCG headquarters in Manila.
The other alleged drug den visitors were identified as Alfredo, 51, and Dan, a 27-year-old assistant manager of a business outsource processing company.
PDEA 7 Regional Director Joel B. Plaza said the subject of the operation, Jurnie, 56, the alleged drug den maintainer, was also arrested along with his brother Erwin.
Jurnie was arrested in 2023 also for drug charges but was able to post bail.
The PDEA-7 said Jurnie was selling 20 to 30 grams of shabu a week before he was arrested.
Seized during the operation were eight packs believed to contain shabu worth P102,000.
Charges are being readied against the arrested individuals, the PDEA-7 said.
The PDEA-7 warned that maintenance of a drug den carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and up to P10 million in fine.
Those caught visiting a drug den faces an imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of up to P500,000.
