'Irresponsible response': Castro hits VP Sara for wishing Marcos good luck amid health rumors
PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro and Vice President Sara Duterte
Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro slammed Vice President Sara Duterte for her remark on President Marcos’ health, which she described as "sarcastic" and "irresponsible."
Duterte’s remark—“good luck to him”— followed by a laugh when asked to comment on rumors about the President’s health, was irresponsible and sarcastic, Castro said in a Palace briefing on Friday, April 10.
"Isang sagot pero makikita ninyo sa body language kung ano ang ibig sabihin (It’s a brief response, but you can tell from the body language what it really means)," Castro said, stressing that the question had no basis or supporting facts.
"Kaya ang nakuha rin natin sa Bise Presidente ay isang irresponsableng sagot: Good luck with a smile (That’s why what we got from the Vice President was also an irresponsible response: ‘Good luck,’ said with a smile)," Castro added.
The Palace official further criticized the Vice President for her reaction saying Filipinos do not "mock or laugh at anyone who is sick," especially if the illness claims are untrue.
"Ang sabi nga (As the saying goes): An idle mind is devil's playground," Castro said.
"So, makikita natin tumawa. Is that a last laugh mentality or mockery of misery. Hindi ba dapat ang isang tao kapag may sakit, mas binibigyan natin ng atensyon at binibigyan natin ng dasal para mas maging maigi ang kalusugan. Hindi mo tatawanan at parang ikaw pa ay sarcastic sa iyong mga kasagutan (So we see laughter—was that a last-laugh mentality or a mockery of someone’s suffering? Shouldn’t we, when someone is ill, give them attention and offer prayers for their recovery? You don’t laugh at them or respond with sarcasm)," Castro argued.
Duterte made the remark in an ambush interview on the sidelines of the commemoration of the Day of Valor in Davao City on Thursday. She made no further comments after saying the one line.
