CEBU CITY – Close to 1,000 individuals were apprehended in the second day of the implementation of the Safer Cities Initiative here.
Police Col. George Ylanan, chief of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said that under the initiative, local ordinances have been strictly enforced for the past two days.
Ylanan said a total of 73 police operations have been conducted that led to the apprehension of 855 violators and the imposition of P256,000 fines.
At least 154 persons were apprehended for drinking in public places, 171 for smoking in prohibited areas, 110 for roaming around shirtless, and 221 minors were rescued for violating the curfew ordinance.
Five persons were also cited for videoke beyond 10 p.m. and 80 were fined for road obstructions.
The CCPO also apprehended 157 persons for traffic violations and 16 others were also cited for various violations of city ordinances.
Ylanan said the operation will continue in the coming days with policemen patrolling crowded areas, schools, transport hubs, and commercial establishments.
The CCPO chief explained that the initiative aims to strengthen public safety to help restore people’s sense of security in urban areas.
