K-pop group TXT's Soobin says they almost got scammed by taxi driver in Cebu
Soobin, a member of K-pop boy band Tomorrow X Together, revealed in a vlog that he and his friend almost got scammed by a taxi driver in Cebu in the Philippines.
Soobin and a male friend flew from Korea to Cebu for a three-day vacation.
Upon arriving in Cebu, they got into a taxi after negotiating a P500 fare going to their hotel. However, Soobin said the driver tried to charge them P1,000.
In the video, Soobin already checked the estimated taxi fare to be about P300.
“Well, we know it'll be about 300 pesos. Let's work out a deal. No more than P350. Just start acting angry if they tell us it'll cost more than 300 pesos. Taehyun’s (another TXT member) traveled to Cebu before so we asked him for some travel tips and he told us to just act angry (if anyone tries to overcharge you),” said Soobin laughing.
When they asked drivers the taxi fare, one said P500.
“Five hundred (pesos)? Five hundred pesos? But we checked the app and it's saying it's only like 300. But to be honest it's only off by 5,000 won (about P198). What'd you say?” he said.
The driver told them, “It's because the gas is very expensive.”
During the ride, Soobin asked the driver again, “So, how much?”
“For you only P1,000,” the driver told them.
They told him it was only P500.
“Five hundred,” said the driver who changed the fare after they complained.
Soobin told YouTube subscribers, “Don't edit this part out, okay? I mean, 500 pesos is already pushing it. Seriously And then, he raises it to 1,000 pesos.”
However, Soobin said the driver tried to charge them P1,000 again when they arrived at their hotel.
“We're here. Just got out of the cab. Once we arrived the driver tried to charge us 1,000 pesos, again but we told him firmly that we were only going to pay 500 pesos,” he said.
His friend said, “I can't believe he'd raise the price so suddenly like that” to which Soobin replied, “I know, right?”
“We agreed on 500 pesos before getting in. Seriously but after we arrived at the hotel he tried to charge us 1,000 pesos,” said Soobin.
One netizen commented on YouTube, “I’m so sorry soobin but thankfully you managed to negotiate the cab price. Some drivers are really taking advantage of foreigners.”
Despite this, Soobin and his friend enjoyed their vacation and also met Filipino fans of TXT.
