Valenzuela authorities warn vs illegal dumping after Tullahan River arrest
By Hannah Nicol
The Valenzuela City government on Tuesday, March 31, warned the public against illegal dumping following the arrest of a man caught disposing of waste in Maceda Bridge Creek along the Tullahan River.
Personnel of Task Force Disiplina (TFD) arrested the suspect, a resident of Barangay Ugong, on Monday, March 30.
He was cited for violating City Ordinance No. 525, Series of 2018, after he was allegedly caught dumping a mattress and plywood on March 28.
He was issued an Ordinance Violation Receipt (OVR) for violation of Section 58, Paragraph 13 (Transport and Dumping) of the ordinance, which prohibits the transport and disposal of garbage, debris, or any waste materials in unauthorized places such as streets, sidewalks, waterways, and other public areas.
Under the ordinance, violators face fines of P3,000 for the first offense, P4,000 for the second offense, and P5,000 for the third offense, and/or imprisonment of up to six months, depending on the court’s decision.
The city government reminded residents to follow proper waste disposal practices and observe scheduled garbage collection to avoid penalties.
Authorities said maintaining clean waterways is essential in preventing flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
On Aug. 6, the local government has been intensifying cleanup operations in creeks and rivers, including the Tullahan River, through environmental programs such as “Oplan Balik Linis-Ganda,” in flood-prone areas.
