Gov't to further appeal to manufacturers to keep prices stable beyond April 16

While the government assured that there will be no increases on prices of basic goods until April 16, possible increases beyond that may be inevitable, Malacañang said.
Thus, they will make further appeal to manufacturers to keep the prices stable beyond April 16.
"[N]angako po ang mga manufacturers na hindi nga po magkakaroon ng price increase hanggang April 16, 2026. Pero nangako rin po si Secretary Cris Roque na weekly ay magmo-monitor po sila (Manufacturers have committed not to implement any price increases until April 16, 2026. Secretary Cris Roque also assured that they will conduct weekly monitoring)," Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro said on Tuesday, March 31.
"At sa aking pagkakaalam, balak po niyang makipag-meeting muli ngayon sa mga manufacturers para po hindi tumaas ang presyo (As far as I know, she is planning to meet again with the manufacturers today to ensure that prices do not go up)," Castro added.
Castro stressed that there may be instances when prices of goods are beyond their control, citing the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which is also beyond the government’s control.
"Pero sabi nga natin, may mga pagkakataon po talaga na hindi natin kakayaning pigilan dahil sa nangyayaring sigalot sa Middle East (However, as we’ve said, there are really instances when it may be beyond our control to prevent increases, especially due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East)," the Palace official said.
"Pero lahat po ng puwedeng gawin ng ahensiya ng gobyerno ay gagawin po para po hindi maging mahirap na pasanin ito sa ating mga kababayan (But rest assured, all possible actions that government agencies can take will be done to make sure this does not become a heavy burden on our fellow citizens)," she added.
"Sa ngayon po, ayaw po nating sabihin na magtataas sila. So, doon muna po tayo sa walang price increase, at after a week, saka po natin tanungin ang DTI para po sa mas detalyadong programa para rito (For now, we don’t want to say that they will increase prices. So let’s stick first with no price increase, and after a week, we can ask the DTI for a more detailed plan on this)," she further said.
Roque earlier said that there is no price increase for basic necessities and prime commodities until April 16. But she added that "definitely we can expect some price increase but not for all."
