CEBU CITY – To address the increasing cases of road crashes, authorities here have intensified the campaign against anti-drunk and drugged driving.
To effectively enforce traffic laws, particularly Republic Act 10586 or the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013, policemen will visit night bars and checkpoints will be mounted at the wee hours of the night.
Leading the campaign is the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) and will be assisted by the Highway Patrol Group, Land Transportation Office, and Philippine Coast Guard Special Operations Task Group.
Police Col. Franco Rodulf Oriol, information officer of the CCPO, noted the spate of road crashes that claimed some lives in recent weeks.
Oriol said most of those who figured in these came from night bars and drove home drunk.
He said that as part of the campaign, those who will be found drunk will not be allowed to drive by confiscating their driver’s licenses.
Last Saturday, March 28, a checkpoint was mounted outside an establishment serving alcohol to customers.
During the operation, 73 Temporary Operator’s Permits were issued while 78 traffic violations that included drunk driving, driving of unregistered vehicles, and non-wearing of seatbelts and helmets were recorded.
Nine motorists also tested positive for alcohol use and were turned over to the Cebu City Traffic Enforcement Unit while their vehicles were impounded.
