4 foreigners, one a 'fugitive,' arrested in Makati City – BI
Four Chinese nationals, one of them a ‘fugitive” in his country, have been arrested by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) in Makati City.
Those arrested, who reportedly failed to present valid passports or immigration documents, were identified by the BI as Zhang Jinglong, Zhang Pengguang, Feng Mincong, and Zhang Yunpeng.
The BI said that initially, the subject of the arrest was Zhang Jinglong who “is wanted by authorities in Guangdong, China for telecom fraud.”
It said that “Zhang Jinglong attempted to mislead authorities by claiming he was a national of Vanuatu, contrary to official records confirming his Chinese citizenship.”
It also said that “Zhang Jinglong appeared to be under the protection of armed individuals, including an active police officer and a reservist, and the information was referred to concerned agencies for appropriate investigation.”
Based on its records, the BI said that Zhang Jinglong entered the Philippines in November 2019 as a temporary visitor “but has remained in the country without any valid extension or visa conversion, making him an overstaying alien, and already included in the blacklist order for previous violations.”
All those arrested last March 25 are now detained at the BI warden facility pending their deportation.
