Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno”Domagoso assured that no transport worker will be left behind as the city government rolls out cash assistance to TNVS drivers affected by rising fuel prices.
The mayor said the initiative is part of city’s continued efforts to support both commuters and transport workers amid the impact of higher oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.
During the 34th City Government Directional Meeting, Domagoso directed key city offices to coordinate and ensure a smooth distribution of assistance.
These include the Manila Department of Social Welfare (MDSW), Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau (MPTB), Department of Engineering and Public Works (DPWH) and the Manila City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Department (MDCRRMD).
The distribution will be held at Kartilya ng Katipunan Park.
Based on city data, 2,629 qualified TNVS drivers will receive P5,000 each.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) will lead the distribution, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
“Nobody will be left behind. Sa krisis, hindi pwedeng may maiiwan — krisis iyan, lahat apektado,” Domagoso said.
Earlier, the city government deployed “libreng sakay” or free rides to assist commuters during a transport strike.
