Roblox is facing a potential restriction in the country.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC) are in communication with the Roblox team to improve safety measures to protect children, otherwise the game may be restricted or suspended.
Roblox is, inherently, a children’s game. It’s a sandbox, meaning it provides significant freedom and allows users to create their own experiences. In this game, users use Roblox Studio to create maps and games that can be shared and played by millions of other players worldwide.
However, the online nature of Roblox, where players can chat with each other, has become a gateway for those with malicious intent. Roblox, due to its peaceful, fun, “cute,” kiddie nature, provided a space for people to settle into a quiet environment and chat. Most of the players are children and teens, and malicious actors know this and are constantly seeking prey.
Only a few days ago, we published an article about the PNP rescuing seven minors who have been groomed through an online game to plan acts of violence, such as burning down a school and starting a mass shooting. The game mentioned was never directly identified, but it is believed to be Roblox.
Roblox has a history of getting sued throughout the United States.
Bloomberg reported in 2024 that Roblox has a pedophile problem.
Just last month this year, Los Angeles sued Roblox for unfair and deceptive business practices that endanger and exploit children.
The State of Texas sued Roblox in November 2025 for putting “pedophiles and profits” over safety.
The State of Louisiana sued Roblox for failing to implement effective safety measures to protect children.
In fact, the states of Iowa, Tennessee, and Kentucky all sued Roblox for failures to keep children safe. Kentucky called Roblox a “playground for predators.”
Florida sued Roblox for mature content. Wait, this is supposed to be a children’s game, right? How was there mature content? Remember, players can create maps and games in Roblox. What can be created is limited by the imagination. So some malicious players have created maps and games that feature mature content.
Just this month, on March 6, Nebraska sued Roblox over child safety concerns.
There are cases as well for Roblox where wrongful deaths have occurred, specifically a teenager who took his own life after being groomed by a malicious player.
The US isn’t the only country that has beef with Roblox. Earlier this year, the Netherlands, through the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM), launched a probe into Roblox to determine whether the developers and the game comply with the EU’s online safety regulations. Among the reasons for the probe is exposing EU minors to user-generated content that may be violent or have explicit content, and increasing risks of inappropriate contact between adults and children.
It still isn’t clear if Roblox will be restricted or banned in the Philippines. It’s easy to point out that the solution would be to use a VPN. Sure enough, the best VPNs out there would require purchasing power. So the only ones who get to use VPNs to keep playing Roblox will be adults or older teens who have decided to use their allowances to find ways to keep playing. Either way, if a restriction were implemented, it would create a barrier to younger children playing the game. There is, of course, a free VPN. But good luck playing online games at those speeds.
