TACLOBAN CITY – The remains of an alleged leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) were found during an encounter between troops of the 63rd Infantry (Innovator) Battalion and remnants of the Sub-Regional Committee (SRC) Sesame in Hinabangan, Samar, on Saturday, March 14.
The decomposing body was discovered between Barangays Cabalagnan and Tabay, Hinabangan, while conducting pursuit operations against fleeing armed rebels.
The body was identified as that of Hunio, secretary of SRC-Sesame, Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee, by former NPA members based on personal belongings recovered at the scene.
Hunio had warrants of arrest for multiple murder along with two others issued by a Basey, Samar Regional Trial Court Branch 30.
His remains have been turned over to the Hinabangan Municipal Police Station for proper documentation, forensic examination, and legal disposition.
