4 dead in motorcycle-wing van collision in Cebu

CEBU CITY – Four persons died when a wing van collided with a motorcycle in Barangay Busay here on Tuesday afternoon, March 10.

Killed in the accident were the driver of the motorcycle, Jose Gacayan, 26, and his two back riders, Ereneya Lopez, 60, and Felix Vasquez, 56.

The driver of the truck, Roger Suyman, 49, also died while his companion, Gener Bacnis, was injured.

Investigation conducted by the Traffic Enforcement Unit of Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) said the truck was negotiating a downhill portion of the road when its brake reportedly malfunctioned.

Police said the truck driver lost control of the steering wheel and collided with the oncoming motorcycle. After hitting the motorcycle, the truck rammed the side of a cliff, pinning the driver to death.

Police Lt. Col. Franco Rodulf Oriol, deputy city director for administration of CCPO, said the incident will be investigated further.
