The government will remain vigilant and proactive in preparing for the possible effects of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, Malacañang said Saturday evening, March 7.
In a statement, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary Claire Castro said President Marcos has directed concerned agencies to stay alert and prepare interventions to address potential impacts on the country, particularly in the energy sector.
“Ang mensahe ni Pangulong Marcos Jr. patungkol sa ating paghahanda ay nararapat at napapanahon (President Marcos’ message regarding our preparations is appropriate and timely),” she said.
“Hindi panahon na matulog lang nang mahimbing dahil tayo ang talo kapag nagpakampante ang gobyerno (This is not the time to sleep soundly because we lose if the government becomes complacent),” she added.
Castro said Department of Energy (DOE) Secretary Sharon Garin echoed the President’s call, noting that the directive reflects the administration’s concern for Filipino households as global developments influence oil prices and the broader economy.
Quoting Garin, Castro said the President’s message underscores the need to prepare for the possible effects of the Middle East war on everyday life.
“Before President Marcos, Jr. made the announcement, he already gave us marching orders to implement and plan interventions to alleviate the burden on Filipinos,” Castro said.
Fuel supply monitored
The DOE said the country currently has an adequate fuel supply and assured the public that there is no need for panic buying.
Authorities are monitoring fuel prices closely and reminded oil companies that adjustments must follow the established schedule.
The DOE, together with the Department of the Interior and Local Government and the Philippine National Police, has intensified inspections of fuel stations to prevent hoarding, profiteering, or supply manipulation.
“We urge the public to remain calm. The government is taking the necessary steps to ensure a stable fuel supply and fair pricing nationwide,” the DOE said.
