BuCor to probe reports of 'special treatment of Chinese detainees' in Sablayan Prison
Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. ordered a probe on allegations that Chinese detainees are given special treatment at the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm (SPPF) in Occidental Mindoro.
Catapang said on Tuesday, March 3, that he has directed BuCor Deputy Director Al Perreras to inspect the SPPF this week.
He said his decision to conduct a probe was in response to media reports that there exists a “condotel” in the SPPF.
However, Catapang views the allegation as part of “a well-orchestrated demolition job aimed at tarnishing my reputation and the ongoing changes being implemented at Bucor.”
Meanwhile, SPPF Superintendent C/SSupt. Roger Boncales has already denied that there are no "condotels" within the prison facility and, if there are, he would have discovered them immediately.
Boncales clarified that what exists are conjugal rooms designed for family visits, a standard feature in correctional facilities, rather than any form of luxury housing.
He said there are 13 conjugal rooms in Central Prison and 21 others at Pasugui both inside the SPPF, he also said.
