BACOLOD CITY – Corporal Renold Gardose was laid to rest in Tapaz, Capiz on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 10 days after he was killed in an encounter with the New People’s Army in Barangay Santo Niño, Tanjay City, Negros Oriental on Feb. 15.
Gardose’s remains arrived in his hometown on Feb. 17 and a wake was held in their residence. He was the sixth among 11 siblings and is survived by his wife and daughter.
A Mass was held at the San Nicolas Catholic Church on Wednesday morning, followed by the interment at the San Nicolas public cemetery.
The 3rd Infantry Division (ID) rendered final military honors to the fallen soldier in honor of his ultimate sacrifice.
The Army said that Gardose’s courage stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of service and dedication embodied by every member of the 3rd ID.
The 29-year-old soldier was among members of the 11th Infantry Battalion (IB) who clashed with remnants of the dismantled South East Front.
Following the encounter in Barangay Santo Niño, the 11th IB, in cooperation with authorities, conducted a community dialogue on Feb. 22 to provide accurate information, address concerns, and prevent misinformation. They also assured residents of sustained security operations to maintain peace and stability in the area.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) discussed available assistance and stress debriefing services to support affected individuals and families.
The city government assured that community concerns will be addressed while police emphasized the importance of community vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activities to prevent future incidents.
